Weekend Tatting Report

Two snowflakes and most of a third are completed for the Craftree Tat-along of 24 Snowflakes in Tatting by Lene Bjorn before the year ends. I invite you to get a copy of the book and join in the fun.

I'm using Lene's snowflakes to practice some techniques I rarely use or haven't mastered yet. My split chains are still failures. I really wish I could find David's email instructions as it worked for me every time way back when. I shall persevere.
The Sixth Day of December
Motif #13 for the 25 Motif Challenge
Tatted in DMC size 80, it is just over 6 cm in diameter.
The Seventh Day of December
Motif #14 for the 25 Motif Challenge
Also tatted in DMC size 80, it is 7.5 cm in diameter.

I started with a center ring so I could climb out with a split ring of 8/8 to tat the outer round. I practiced onion rings to form those layered circles.

Round 1 with the beginning of Round 2
The Eighth Day of December
Also in DMC size 80.
Lene provides instructions for block tatting with ball and shuttle as well as with two shuttles. Since the Eighth recommends ball and shuttle and the Ninth recommends two shuttles, I thought I'd enjoy trying both methods of block tatting to see if I prefer one method over the other.

Thanks for dropping by my blog!

I love them all but favor the first! I cringe with block tatting and have gotten better still try to avoid that puppy :) all of this are beautiful I did lots of the snowflakes in the book and this still remains a favorite book for flakes!

I like your colours. Beautiful work. So what did you decide, do you like ball and shuttle or 2 shuttles?

They all look fabulous! I will join the challenge some day, but not until I finish up the bundle of projects I already have going.

Your snowflakes look beautiful. You will certainly be ready for Christmas well before it arrives!

A question: What thread did you use for the pastel medallion that is repeated on the background of your blog? For years I have admired the delicacy of It's color seqence. Is it the same thread used for your Twin Butterflies pattern sample?

Michelle, it's DMC color #67.

I felt motivated, muskaan, to complete the snowflakes for April so I could justify starting Renulek's Spring Tat-Along Doily. :)

Thank you, Jane. I'm still working on #8 which is ball and shuttle. it's #9 that is block tatting with 2 shuttles. Ask me again after I tat #9.

Diane, you'll really enjoy it. I do understand the need to finish up a few projects. I joined Kersti's WIP Wednesday challenge to help me focus on some of those.

Thanks, God's Kid.

Thank you, Randi. It's always good to be prepared. They make nice wedding presents, too. The pastel medallion in my blog background is a Manuela thread, and it is the same thread I used for the Butterfly Twins. Unfortunately, the company does not make it anymore. I even visited the home company's webpage again last week in hopes that it was available directly from them, but no. I've yet to find a good substitute for that particular variegated color.

I finished my sixth day last night and started the seventh day with the onion rings, as you say some of the snowflakes have some techniques we don't use very often so it's nice to refresh and try something new as well,
Your snowflakes looke lovely and with just a bit of colour, I don't think I could do a muskaan with all the colours she used last time

There are some great tips in the Craftree forum on this snowflake. I hope to tat this one again later in the year and improve upon those onion rings with the suggestions in the forum thread.
