5 Tatted Ice Cream Cones

This is a pattern that I enjoy tatting. I load the ice cream thread with 14 to 16 beads for the square, placing 8 of those on the shuttle. I load 16 to 20 for the outer round with 8 of those again on the shuttle. I then place them randomly as I tat. I used size 20 thread for the ice cream--DMC Cecelia white and brown, Manuela pink. The cones were tatted with some Altin Basak size 50 that I had on hand. In spite of the size 50 on the label, I find this thread to be somewhere between DMC Cecelia size 20 and 30 in size.

When this lovely pattern was a craze some years ago I attempted to make the icecream cones with beads but always managed to go wrong. So it is lovely to see them in all their glory, will not try again!

Yum! The beads look like little sprinkles!

Thanks, Diane and Michelle. Sally, I considered a diagram for bead placement, but I just couldn't make up my mind where to place them for all time. :) Their placement really doesn't matter as long as you sprinkle them throughout the piece. The hardest part for me was deciding how many were too many which is why I shared the bead counts this time.

This looks like a fun pattern and love the sprinkles too! You know this would go with the tatted cupcakes and would make a great birthday party too!

I'm glad you tried adding beads, too, Maureen.
