Ice Cream Cone

(measures 3 3/8 inches by 2 3/8 inches in size 20 Manuela)
Diagram

Note that if you are tatting the entire piece in one color, you will need two shuttles since there is a 2nd shuttle ring at the bottom. For a two color piece, you'll use ball and shuttle for the ice cream and two shuttles for the cone. Instructions are for a two color piece.

Begin with one completed Valeire Square in your desired color (flavor) of ice cream.

Optional: Load a few beads on both the ball and the shuttle and drop them into the piece randomly for a few candy sprinkles.

Using the same color as the square, begin with the ring marked with a star in the diagram and note that you are starting up one side of the square and working your way around. If you are tatting in traditional tatting, your Valeire square will be backside up as you join that first ring so it would be as if you are looking at the diagram from the back.

Ice Cream Scoop:
R 3-3+ (j to center p of chain on square) 3-3, cl, rw.
Ch 2-2-2-2-2-2, rw.
R 3+ (j to previous ring) 3+ (j into same p of square as last ring) 3-3, cl, rw.
Ch 2-2-2-2-2-2, rw.
R 3-3+ (j to center p of next chain on the square) 3-3, cl, rw.
Ch 2-2-2-2-2-2, rw.
R 3-3+ (j to first p of next chain on the square) 3-3, cl, rw.
Ch 2-2-2-2-2-2, rw.
R 3-3+ (skip 1 picots on that same ch and join to next) 3-3, cl, rw.
Ch 2-2-2-2-2-2, rw.
R 3-3+ (j to center p of next chain) 3-3, cl, rw.
Ch 2-2-2-2-2-2, rw.
R 3-3+ (skip 1 picots on that same ch and join to next) 3-3, cl, rw.
Ch 2-2-2-2-2-2, rw.
R 3-3+ (j to center p of next chain) 3-3, cl, rw.
Ch 2-2-2-2-2-2, rw.
R 3-3+ (j to center p of next chain) 3-3, cl, rw.
Ch 2-2-2-2-2-2, rw.
R 3+ (j to previous ring) 3+ (to same p of square as previous ring) 3-3, cl.
Finish ends and add in new color for the cone or continue if you wish to tat all in one color.

Cone:
Using two shuttles in the desired cone color, attach your thread to the base of the last ring tatted and
Ch 2-2-2-2-2-2, rw.

I can't believe I am the first to comment on this post because this ice cream cone is so adorable. I can't remember how I had the good fortune to stumble upon your blog...maybe it was from Georgia Seitz's site with your ice cream cone pattern there. I so adore it. I tatted it up and I am posting it on my blog with a link to your pattern and giving you due credit for the pattern. I hope that's okay. Please let me know if it's not. Stop by my blog and visit sometime. I'm also my tatted version of your pattern my page at eTatters. Just wanted to let you know ~TattingChic :)
