I'm getting things done as well as learning and exploring new things. My old approach sometimes seemed laborious and it was easy to lose interest. Now I'm just having fun. These are some of the things I've been doing this week.In the top left, the Eliz Davis aka Tatknothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13560518278370416698noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4369120374771054096.post-72636353208571070992024-03-15T20:29:00.001-05:002024-03-16T10:29:06.248-05:00Beginner Tatters Can Design, Too! When my daughter, Sarah, was new to tatting at age 12, I encouraged her to start creating her own designs right away--just play with what she knew. She had learned to make a ring, rings on bare thread, and rings and chains. She used these three elements to create this bookmark. It's a great way to use the last of the thread left on a shuttle. She shared it only with our close little Eliz Davis aka Tatknothttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13560518278370416698noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4369120374771054096.post-69321245390557882942024-03-03T14:31:00.006-06:002024-03-03T16:10:06.100-06:00Catherine Wheel Joins and Torchon Cloth Stitch This is my practice piece for the Catherine Wheel Join. It has plenty of bad joins as well as some good ones. I think I've finally got it, but I plan to keep practicing until it's large enough to serve as a coaster for my favorite mug.Progress on Torchon! I started this Starfish by Lisa Trumble some time during the last few years while I was out of contact with you. I finished leg two and started leg three. My health is much improved and tatting is fun again. I'm tatting Sue Hanson's RR520 doily. Mimi Dillman, Dianna Stevens, and I worked with Sue to design this 10.5" round doily. The original was tatted in purple and black size 20. I used rings of 5 picots separated by one double stitch. The one with yellow in it was worked in a spiral while I worked the smaller one in successive rounds. It is destined to be a rug in my granddaughter’s dollhouse. I replaced the final round with all chains for a better fit in its new home.

If I find myself sidetracked as so often happens, my desire is to pick up where I left off and keep on going. I don't have to wait until the beginning of the next new year to get back on track, but New Year's Day is a good time to reassess, to review how I've done and what I yet want to do. I got some work done on my UFOs in the last few months of the year. I need to do some blocking before they are ready to be seen.

It doesn't look at all like it started as the recipient requested a change in the edging and how it was to be mounted. I confess that the new design was quicker and easier, but it has still taken me most of the year to get it done. The sewing required to attach an edging is the part of a project I tend to dread.
