Front of Morfo Butterfly

The front side of the butterfly is tatted. As you can see, some of the beads are tatted in. I've used pink and dark purple beads so far with this size 20 Flora color #227 (a soft shade of blue). Next will be the addition of more beads with needle and thread.

It looks great in these colours. I think I'm going to have to try this pattern.

I'm afraid the photo doesn't reflect the actual colors very well, but I'm excited about it. I'll try to get a picture in natural light for the next stage.

This is looking so elegant already!

You've certainly mastered tatting in the beads on the 'front' butterfly! I now realize that there are actually two butterflies that make up the completed butterfly - one 'plain' butterfly and one with beads tatted in. Then more beads (larger) are sewn in later, some of which are sandwiched in between the two butterflies.

As I don't work with beads very often, I'm confused about the beads that are tatted in a straight line on the 'front' butterfly. There seem to be alternating beads, making it look like two rows of beads. Are the pink beads strung on the shuttle, and the purple beads alternated 'as you go', with a hook?

Your butterfly is lovely. What size beads are used in this butterfly pattern?
