Untatting

As I finish the final row in the final wing of one of Anne Bruvold's Flying Minor Norwegian Dragons, I find myself pondering the time it takes to untat compared to the time it takes to tat. I've had to untat a chain on both the final round and the previous one. First I forgot to make a ring between chains, then I forgot to join to a ring between chains. I untat because I have too much invested in this darling dragon to start over for such small mistakes, but I'm appalled at how long it takes to undo my knots. Lesson learned: A little extra time to check the diagram and the instructions will save far more time than removing knots. Sounds kind of like "a stitch in time saves nine" doesn't it? Well, back to my dragon.

While reading your post I found myself nodding in agreement. In fact, I am un-tatting (retro tatting/unpicking/tonking) a ring while I surf tatting blogs!

I find it helps to take the edge off the frustration if I can read about other people's tatting. LOL!

Looking forward to seeing your dragon. Will you share a photo of it when you are done?

I had to do that the other night, untat a chain, a ring, and part of another chain. But even more recently, I was tatting a motif and was almost done when I realized I left out a ring. That would've meant untatting a ring, a chain, a clover, and another chain. So I just matched the other side of that end and finished it. The opposite ends are different, but if you didn't know what the original design was, you wouldn't think anything of it. LOL!

I've been wanting to tat another of Anne's dragons, the original plus the newer design she made.

I'm in favor of design changes over untating whenever possible. I, too, love all of Anne's dragons.
